Egypt Vet Care

Worldwide Vets is committed to helping animals in Egypt to alleviate suffering and improve their welfare and comfort. We work with shelters to provide vet care, and within the community to improve the lives of farm animals.

For equines like horses and donkeys, providing vital transportation for families living in poverty often means no respite during long hours working in the scorching sun. Ridden from a young age, horses are too often utilised for tourism by uneducated or heavy riders, who repeatedly gallop them in the deep desert sand. This leads to a huge array of trauma and injuries. Poor nutrition, emaciation, and saddle sores are covered up, as the animals are forced to keep working in pain. Throughout Cairo, countless street dogs and cats endure relentless suffering. They face hunger, disease, and abuse, living each day in fear and pain. For many years, stray dogs were killed by shooting or poisoning. In 2017, authorities reportedly killed 17,000 dogs in just one area of Cairo. Today the stray population remains, and estimates suggest 60 humans die of rabies each year. We are supporting local shelters, stray animals and grass roots vet clinics. Your donation can provide lifesaving treatment, prevent suffering, and improve the welfare of Egypt’s most vulnerable animals.

Our focus is  threefold.

  1. Vaccination, sterilisation, and emergency care for shelter and stray animals to curb population growth and disease.

  2. Provide treatment for working equines and sponsor better tack and harnesses.

  3. Run an educational project for children to be better custodians for their animals in the future.

A clinic for all

Our dream is to form a vet clinic in Cairo for all species. To do this we will work closely with:

  • Local shelters and rescue groups

  • Independent rescuers

  • Street animal feeders

  • Local authorities seeking humane population control

We aim to provide:

  • Efficient, high-volume spay/neuter services

  • Rabies vaccination

  • Microchipping and parasite treatment

  • Emergency and welfare procedures

Ultimately, our clinic is more than a place for treatment—
it is a center for education, community engagement, and animal advocacy

helping Working equines

In Egypt’s tourism and transport industries, many horses, donkeys, and mules endure harsh conditions, often suffering from untreated injuries, exhaustion, and malnutrition. By working alongside local charities, we aim to raise welfare standards, prevent cruelty, and give these animals a second chance at a better life. Through treatment, education, and advocacy, we are committed to improving the future of Egypt’s equines.

As horse lovers ourselves, we want to see long term sustainable change coming about for the equine industry. Whilst treating animals is a vital part of this, we also need to work with shareholders, community partners and the younger generation to bring about sustainable change and empowerment.

Beyond day-to-day treatments and education, we also have exciting plans for educational courses for vets and farriers, to improve the care and medical support animals can get in Cairo.

helping cats and Dogs

In the streets and shelters of Egypt, thousands of cats and dogs struggle daily to survive. Many suffer from malnutrition, untreated injuries, infections, and preventable diseases, with little to no access to veterinary care. At Worldwide Vets, we believe that every dog deserves a chance at a healthy life, regardless of their circumstances.

Following an in-depth research trip to Cairo and Giza, we established the early infrastructure of our dog and cat support network by joining forces with local vets who live and work in some of the most underserved regions of the city.

Despite launching only in August 2025, our accomplishments are highly impactful and so far we have the following work completed:

  • Sterilisations achieved: 192

  • Rabies Vaccines: 293

  • Microchips: 291

  • Annual vaccines: 34

  • Parasite treatments: 199

  • Deworming treatments: 201

  • Critical and medical cases: 48

Total procedures carried out: 1,258

helping Farm Animals

In many rural and impoverished areas of Egypt, farm animals such as sheep, goats, and cows are not just livestock—they are the backbone of local communities. Families rely on them for milk, meat, wool, and as a source of income. However, without access to proper veterinary care, these animals often suffer from malnutrition, parasites, infections, and preventable diseases, leading to reduced productivity and financial hardship for their owners.

By improving the health of these animals, we help secure a sustainable livelihood for the families who depend on them.

Our Biggest Goal yet...2026

We have an exciting new development: we want to provide a mobile vet hospital.

After years of supporting charitable veterinary care in Egypt, we're taking it to the next level. We’ve begun fundraising for a mobile veterinary clinic, which will be equipped with X-ray, ultrasound, essential medications, and the tools needed to provide much-needed care to these hardworking horses.

In addition to equines, we hope to expand our efforts to care for stray dogs, cats, and livestock that local communities rely on for survival. The van will be fully equipped and stocked with supplies to treat colic, wounds, abscesses, choke, birthing difficulties, and other conditions that currently cause unnecessary suffering and death in the areas surrounding the pyramids.
