Wild Vet Scholarship

Worldwide Vets is proud to highlight the Gemma Campling Wild Vet Scholarship, an annual scholarship designed to help vet students and pre-vets access hands-on training opportunities in Africa. Founded by Worldwide Vets CEO and veterinarian, Dr Gemma Campling, the scholarship has been created to support passionate future conservationists who dream of working with wildlife, conservation medicine, and field veterinary projects, but may face financial barriers to getting involved.

In 2026 one successful applicant will receive:

  • £500 Scholarship Funding

To be used towards:

  • Wildlife veterinary courses in Africa

  • Accommodation

  • Course fees

While preference may be given to students attending Worldwide Vets wildlife programmes, applications are welcome from individuals attending any recognised wildlife veterinary course in Africa.

Why This Scholarship Was Created

Wildlife veterinary medicine is one of the most exciting and inspiring areas of the profession, but it is also one of the hardest fields to access financially. Travel, accommodation, course fees and equipment costs can make these experiences feel impossible for many students and early-career vets.

The Gemma Campling Wild Vet Scholarship was created to help bridge that gap. The goal is simple:

  • To help talented and passionate people access wildlife opportunities

  • To encourage the next generation of conservation veterinarians

  • To support practical learning and global experience

  • To make wildlife veterinary medicine more accessible

Gemma Campling hopes this scholarship not only changes one person’s experience each year but also inspires more people to pursue careers in conservation and wildlife health.

A Message From Gemma

“Getting into wildlife veterinary medicine was never easy for me. Like many people trying to enter this field, I had to fight hard for opportunities and make sacrifices that many of my peers did not have to make.

I gave up a lot of normal parts of life while trying to build experience — spending money on courses, volunteer placements, travel and opportunities that I hoped would eventually open doors into the wildlife industry. Through persistence, volunteer experiences, wildlife courses and simply refusing to give up, I eventually found my way into conservation and wildlife medicine. But I know firsthand how financially difficult and competitive this path can be.

If this helps even one person access an experience they otherwise could not afford, and forge a way into the wildlife industry, I have achieved the goal.”
