THEMBA
Pronounced Tem-bah - noun, isiZulu origin. Meaning: Hope.
Themba is a wild, 11-month-old cheetah clinging to life after suffering a devastating leg fracture. Without emergency surgery, she may never run again... or survive at all.
Without urgent surgery, she faces not only the loss of her ability to run, but also her life. Her future now depends on your help.
Discovered injured during our Safari Vet Internship Project in South Africa this July, Themba was rescued thanks to the swift intervention of our partner, Fabiola Quesada from Wild Spirit Fund. Knowing the critical status of cheetahs, now classed as vulnerable by the IUCN, with just 7,100 left in the wild, Fabiola recognised the importance of fighting for this young life. Themba was transported over 1,000 km for assessment, where x-rays confirmed a fractured humerus. Without specialist surgery, she cannot recover and will face euthanasia.
But we refuse to give up on her.
We urgently need to raise $11,800 to cover surgery, intensive veterinary care, and rehabilitation. Every donation gives Themba the chance not only to survive, but to return to the wild, helping secure the future of her species. And if release is not possible, funds will ensure she can live safely in natural, wild-adapted sanctuary care.
Saving Themba isn’t just about one cheetah. It’s about protecting an entire species for generations to come.
